Are you a dental clinic looking for low-competition dental keywords to outperform your competitors on Google?

Or are you a dentist specialist looking to attract more customers in your city?

In any way, you’ll need to know what dental care keywords your potential customers search for on Google.

It’s not difficult if you know how to do niche keyword research. However, you might not know what SEO (search engine optimization) is and how it works. No worries about it! That’s why SEO experts exist, and they can help you define the most suitable keywords for your dental website

Let’s jump in.

A list of 20 dental keywords for SEO in 2024

I’ve done extensive keyword research to discover the most searched dental SEO keywords with low competition and high search volumes. Grab these keyword ideas, write optimized content, and see how your website grows. It’s that simple!

“Kids dental”

  • Keyword difficulty: 40/100
  • Global volume: 22,000
  • Search volume in the USA: 14,800
  • Search intent: Informational

If you want to target this keyword, write a detailed blog post of over 2,500 words about kids dental. The search intent is informational, meaning people seek information on a given topic. However, you can also promote your products and services or invite your target audience to join your email list.

“Full mouth dental implants”

  • Keyword difficulty: 25/100
  • Global volume: 10,100
  • Search volume in the USA: 6,600
  • Search intent: Mixed

This is a very promising keyword for several reasons. First, it has a 25 keyword difficulty, which is relatively easy to target. Second, the keyword’s global volume is over 10k. Even if you get 1% of the traffic, that’s 100 site visitors daily!

Remember that the keyword’s search intent is a mix of informational and commercial intent. It means you’ll likely see landing pages and informational blog posts ranking at the top of Google. In this case, I recommend creating a blog post with native promotion of your products and services.

“Dental implant vs. bridge”

  • Keyword difficulty: 23/100
  • Global volume: 3,800
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,300
  • Search intent: Commercial

If you offer dental implant services, I highly recommend targeting this easy-to-rank keyword. The search intent is commercial, which means you can create a dedicated landing page where you’ll compare implants to dental bridges.

“Dental implants for seniors”

  • Keyword difficulty: 18/100
  • Global volume: 2,000
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,300
  • Search intent: Mixed

This keyword is a stand-alone topic where you should cover all the peculiarities of doing dental implants for seniors. The keyword is easy to rank. So, a well-written blog post optimized for search engines and showing your expertise should rank on top of Google without link building.

Notice that this keyword has a $5.82 cost-per-click (CPC). It’s a pretty expensive keyword to target in paid search ads. It makes me assume dental clinics compete for this keyword in organic and paid search results.

“Dental bonding vs. veneers”

  • Keyword difficulty: 15/100
  • Global volume: 2,800
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,000
  • Search intent: Informational

This keyword has a purely informational search intent, which means you’ll have to create a blog post that holistically answers users’ questions.

The keyword difficulty is low. So, a well-written blog post with over 2,500 words can realistically rank on Google without investing in link building.

“Best dental veneers”

  • Keyword difficulty: 21/100
  • Global volume: 3,600
  • Search volume in the USA: 110
  • Search intent: Commercial

I’ve analyzed many similar keywords from various industries. So, whenever you see the word “best” in the keyword, it means users want to compare different options and pick the best product or service.

In this case, I recommend creating a long-form article where you’ll compare different options and sell your own services.

I’ve written many similar articles comparing products and companies. Based on my experience, they sell. Therefore, ensure you create a well-written and optimized article to rank on Google.

“Dental flossers”

  • Keyword difficulty: 16/100
  • Global volume: 73,000
  • Search volume in the USA: 27,100
  • Search intent: Transactional

This keyword is rather general since you don’t know what exactly users want when searching for dental flossers online. Some might want to compare different brands, while others will want to make a purchase.

If you are just starting, I’d recommend targeting more specific dental clinic keywords, which will help you achieve your goals faster.

“Dental chairs”

  • Keyword difficulty: 22/100
  • Global volume: 17,700
  • Search volume in the USA: 8,100
  • Search intent: Commercial

Like in the previous example, this keyword is general since we don’t know what exactly users want when they search for dental chairs online.

However, if you run a company that manufactures dental chairs, it’s a must to target this keyword. I recommend featuring several products so that users can compare available options and choose the best one.

“Dental kit”

  • Keyword difficulty: 19/100
  • Global volume: 10,300
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,900
  • Search intent: Transactional

Target this keyword if you run a web shop selling dental kits. You can create a landing page or an article comparing different dental kits and selling your products.

“Dental wax for braces”

  • Keyword difficulty: 22/100
  • Global volume: 4,400
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,600
  • Search intent: Mixed

Do you offer dental braces services? If yes, target this keyword. It has a mixed search intent, which means you can create a blog post and natively promote your services in the content.

Based on my experience, I can confidently say that optimized long-form content can hit the Google front page in a couple of months. However, I’d also suggest you analyze the top-performing competitors before creating content.

“Hygiene dental instruments”

  • Keyword difficulty: 18/100
  • Global volume: 130
  • Search volume in the USA: 110
  • Search intent: Commercial

Unlike other keywords on this list, the “hygiene dental instruments” keyword has a low search volume. Even if you rank in the first position on Google, you’ll be able to get up to 30% of all clicks, which is roughly 50 monthly visits.

This keyword has business potential and can help you sell dental instruments. However, I don’t recommend focusing on this keyword if you are only starting your online dental business.

“Front tooth crown”

  • Keyword difficulty: 24/100
  • Global volume: 9,500
  • Search volume in the USA: 5,400
  • Search intent: Mixed

Do you offer the front tooth crown dental service? If yes, this is an excellent keyword for your business. It has relatively high search volumes in various countries, including the USA.

Businesses also pay at least $3.80 per click to rank their ads on top of Google search results. The higher the CPC, the bigger the competition. However, it’s still a relatively easy-to-rank dental marketing keyword in organic search results. Therefore, add it to your keyword list and start creating content!

“Wisdom tooth cavity”

  • Keyword difficulty: 18/100
  • Global volume: 7,700
  • Search volume in the USA: 2,900
  • Search intent: Mixed

This is quite a popular keyword in the United States, with a $4.73 cost-per-click in paid search ads. Well, that isn’t surprising since many people experience issues with wisdom teeth.

If you are a seasoned dentist specialist offering wisdom tooth removal surgery, make sure to target this keyword, introduce your services, and mention why patients should trust you.

“Front tooth filling”

  • Keyword difficulty: 18/100
  • Global volume: 7,700
  • Search volume in the USA: 2,900
  • Search intent: Mixed

This is a pretty popular keyword based on the search volumes and CPC. Nevertheless, the keyword difficulty is relatively low, which makes me assume a high-quality page can rank high for this keyword.

“Single tooth bridge”

  • Keyword difficulty: 28/100
  • Global volume: 4,400
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,900
  • Search intent: Informational

If you target this keyword, you’ll attract people who need help with a single tooth bridge. If that’s one of your services, optimize your article for this keyword.

  • Global volume: 5,500
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,900
  • Search intent: Mixed

If you offer cosmetics dental services then this keyword is for you. I recommend creating an article sharing what tooth piercing is, explaining the entire process for people, and highlighting the pros and cons. I also recommend adding a few FAQ questions to increase your chances of getting into featured snippets on Google.

“Cavit tooth”

  • Keyword difficulty: 20/100
  • Global volume: 2,600
  • Search volume in the USA: 1,300
  • Search intent: Mixed

Even though Semrush shows mixed search intent, I believe this keyword’s search intent is informational.

As an expert in dentistry, you’ll have to create a blog post explaining what a tooth cavity is, what causes tooth cavities, and what people should do to avoid tooth cavities. These are just a few ideas. You can add more related topics and feature your services.

Consider ranking for this keyword if you offer dental surgeries and implants.

I’d recommend creating a detailed and long-form landing page where you’ll fully cover the “temporary tooth” topic.

Why is SEO important for dentists?

With more and more people turning to the internet to find local dental services, a strong SEO strategy can significantly impact your dental practice’s visibility and patient acquisition.

If you want to do dental SEO, here’s what you can achieve:

1. Improved online presence and visibility

SEO helps dental practices rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) for relevant keywords related to dental services in their area. When potential patients search for dental services keywords online, they are more likely to find your practice if it ranks prominently in search results.

2. Increased organic traffic and lead generation

Higher rankings on SERPs increase organic traffic to your dental website. This organic traffic consists of potential patients actively seeking dental care and are more likely to convert into new patients.

3. Strengthened brand reputation and trustworthiness

When your dental practice appears in organic search results, it conveys a sense of credibility and trust to potential patients. They are more likely to consider your practice if it consistently ranks among the top results for relevant dental searches.

4. Cost-effective marketing strategy

Compared to paid advertising, SEO offers a more cost-effective way to reach a wider audience and attract new patients. Once your website is optimized, you can continue generating organic traffic over time without having to constantly invest in paid advertising campaigns.

5. Long-term benefits and sustainable growth

SEO writing is a long-term strategy that yields consistent results over time. Unlike paid advertising, where the benefits are temporary and depend on continuous spending, SEO efforts can provide a steady stream of organic traffic and new patients for your dental practice.

6. Local SEO for hyper-local marketing

Dental care is a hyper-local business. Patients often prefer to find a dental practice near their homes or workplaces. SEO allows you to target local search queries and attract patients specifically looking for dental services in your area.

7. Building a strong foundation for future growth

A strong SEO foundation lays the groundwork for future marketing efforts. As your dental clinic grows, your SEO strategy can be adapted to accommodate new offerings and reach a wider audience.

By implementing a strategic SEO plan, dental practices can enhance online visibility, attract more patients, and achieve sustainable growth.

How to do dental keyword research

By identifying and targeting the most relevant and frequently searched terms related to your dental services, you can improve your website’s visibility and rankings in organic search results.

Keywords are the cornerstone of any dental SEO campaign. They are the terms potential patients use when searching for dental services online. Utilizing relevant and specific dental keywords can significantly enhance your website’s visibility in search results.

When researching keywords, you should focus on relevance and search volume. Relevance ensures that the keywords are directly related to your dental services, while search volume indicates how often those terms are searched for by users.

Feel free to use the following numbers as a benchmark when researching easy-to-rank keywords with high traffic potential. You can use Semrush to research and analyze keywords. According to Semrush, keywords with the keyword difficult below 30 are considered easy to rank for. Semrush also published an insightful guide to dental SEO I recommend checking.

  1. Global volume (GV): 100+
  2. Search volume in your target country (SV): 100+
  3. Traffic potential (TP): 100+
  4. Keyword difficult (KD): <30 (medium competition)

On-page SEO for content optimization

On-page SEO involves optimizing elements on a dental website to improve rankings.

Title tags and meta descriptions: Each page should have a unique title tag and meta description incorporating relevant keywords.

Example: The title tag for a service page could be “Professional Teeth Whitening Services | [Your Company Name].”

Headings: Structure your content using H1, H2, and H3 header tags to help users and search engines better understand your content.

H1: Main title of a page, such as “Quality Dental Care Services.”

H2, H3, H4: Subheadlines, such as “Our Teeth Whitening Procedure.”

Content: Publish high-quality, informative content that includes your target keyword.

Use bullet points or numbered lists to list services or benefits.

Incorporate italic or bold text to highlight important terms.

Images: Optimize images with descriptive file names and alt text containing relevant keywords.

Alt text example: “Dental clinic waiting room.”

Internal linking: Include internal links to help visitors navigate the site and distribute page authority.

Link your blog post to another related blog post or a service page.

Local SEO: Register your dental practice at Google My Business and manage online reviews to boost local search rankings. I highly recommend encouraging your satisfied patients to leave positive reviews.

These on-page SEO strategies can significantly enhance a dental website’s search engine rankings and online visibility.
