What does the keyword research plan include?

  • Keywords with business potential you can focus on right away —either for the next quarter (12-15 topics) or even a full year (48-50 topics).

  • Keyword difficulty — This tells you how hard it’ll be to rank on Google’s first page (rated from 0 to 100).

  • Global volume — How many people are searching for this topic every month around the world.

  • Volume in your target country – Helps you see how much interest there is in your specific market.

  • Search intent Shows the reason behind someone’s search, whether they are looking to buy, learn, or find a specific site.
  • Format – What type of content works best for this topic based on search intent (blog post, guide, list, etc.)

  • Business value – How this piece of content can help you reach your goals, whether it’s more signups, leads, or sales.

The keyword plan is developed to help you answer one important question — What content should I produce to achieve my business goals?”

After all, your website traffic is nothing if it does not help you gain customers and make sales.

Words have power if you approach the content creation process strategically.

How my website grows with my keyword research strategy

In addition to helping my clients with keyword research services, I use the same process to find, analyze, and prioritize keywords for my own website.

Every quarter, I put together a keyword research plan focused on discovering and prioritizing money-making keywords. Each keyword then becomes an SEO content brief, which I (and other SEO writers) use to create content optimized for rankings.

I don’t use AI-generated keywords or content because my main goal is to create quality content that meets user search intent.

How I grow my site with keyword research

My 6-step keyword research process

1. Let’s talk

First, we chat about your website (if you have one), your challenges, and your goals.

I’ll ask for the following information:

  • Your website URL – The link to your website so I can analyze its current performance and content.

  • Competitors – Names or URLs of websites you consider your main competitors. This helps identify keyword gaps and content strategies.

  • Products or services you offer – A clear list of what you sell or provide, whether it’s digital products, consulting, or physical goods. This ensures keyword research aligns with your offerings.

  • 3-5 search terms you’d like to rank for – Target keywords or phrases your audience searches for.

No website yet? No problem.

I just need to know your niche, target audience, how you plan to make money, and any products or services you’ll offer.

2. Analyzing your competitors

Before diving into keyword research, I analyze your competitors to understand what helps them succeed in organic search results. This helps me spot opportunities and figure out how to help your website rank for your target keywords.

Here’s what I check:

  • How their websites are structured
  • Their top-performing pages
  • Their top-performing keywords and content
  • Their overall keyword strategy
  • What they’re offering and how it compares to yours

This way, I can create a keyword research report that helps you outperform your rivals—and win!

3. Discovering suitable keywords

At this stage, I gather all the keywords and organize them in an Excel sheet. This sheet will later turn into your keyword plan, where keywords are prioritized based on their ranking potential for your website and their business value.

  • A quarterly keyword plan usually takes up to 14 days to complete and doesn’t require a draft.

  • An annual keyword plan normally takes about 14 days, but if there’s client feedback and adjustments, it can take up to a month.

4. Sharing a draft for feedback

If you choose an annual keyword research plan (which includes 48-50 keywords spread out over the year) or any other in-depth research, I always start by sharing a draft with about 10 topics.

This way, you can review the progress and make sure you’re happy with the keyword choices.

We’ll also have a 1-hour call to go over everything. I’ll walk you through the progress, share key insights, discuss the draft, and plan the next steps together.

5. Prioritizing keywords

Unlike other keyword research consultants, I don’t just throw a list of keywords your way.

I prioritize keywords!

Your keyword plan will be sorted by competition level and how valuable each keyword is for your business. No guessing is involved. You’ll have a clear picture of which keywords will attract your target audience and how they fit into your overall SEO strategy.

6. Final call and next steps

Once the keyword research report is ready, I organize a handover call to discuss the findings and your next steps.

I walk you through the findings and explain why certain keywords were chosen. Additionally, I’ll share my insights on what you can achieve by producing content optimized for the recommended keywords.

As an SEO expert, I’ll also provide an actionable list of the next steps that you can implement on your website to drive organic traffic and grow your website.

Keyword research services FAQ

What's SEO keyword research?

SEO keyword research is all about figuring out the words and phrases people use when they search for something online.

Knowing keywords helps you understand what your audience is looking for, so you can create content that aligns with their needs and ranks in search results.

Without it, you’re just guessing what people want, and your website might not show up where needed.

By focusing on the suitable keywords, your content will attract the target audience —people who are already interested in what you’re offering.

Who needs keyword research services?

  • Niche site owners looking to boost their organic traffic.
  • Content creators with personal websites who want a steady flow of visitors, potential clients, and sales.
  • SaaS companies that hope to attract more customers through Google.
  • B2B companies that aim to get leads from organic search.

What do you guarantee?

I’ve tested my keyword research process across different websites—my own, B2B agencies, and SaaS companies—so I know what works.

The keywords I recommend have low-to-medium competition, decent search volumes, and real money-making potential for your business. If you optimize your content around the recommended keywords, you’ll be able to boost organic traffic, get more leads, or drive sales.

And I won’t just hand over the keyword list and disappear. I’ll be around to offer support and answer any questions you have.

What can I achieve by doing keyword research?

Keyword research will help you focus on search terms with decent traffic and business potential.

By knowing your target audience and their online behavior, you’ll be able to discover informational and transactional keywords your website can realistically rank for.

If your website does not rank well and the content is not optimized, I recommend conducting keyword research, collecting keywords with potential, and optimizing your existing and new content.

Imagine keyword research as your competitive advantage. Unlike your competitors, you won’t waste time and resources on topics no one searches for online.

As an SEO expert, I’ve helped UX and product design agencies, SaaS companies, and small businesses with my keyword research services.

Moreover, I’ve grown my website with the help of SEO. Chances are, you’ve stumbled upon this web page in organic search results because it’s well-optimized.
