SEO writing is a powerful strategy to hit the Google front page. However, it takes time to master it and achieve decent results.

You should conduct keyword research, content writing, outlining, on-page optimization, and manage updates on your own.

As a marketer and an SEO writing specialist, it takes me 8–10 hours to create a well-optimized blog post that performs well on Google. I research the topic, competitors, and keywords, write and optimize content, and create visuals on my own.

It’s a lot of manual work.

My website has been steadily growing since its launch in July 2022. However, I was questioning if there was a faster way to create optimized content.

Apparently, many content writing tools for SEO can help you speed up your writing process and create optimized content.

In this article, I’ll share my Frase.io review, which will help you understand if this tool fits your SEO writing needs.

Here is a clickable table of contents for your convenience:

What’s Frase.io?

Frase.io is an AI-powered tool that helps research, write, and optimize content fast.

What's Frase.io

I watched their introductory video on mute to see whether it would trigger any emotions, and I got the main brand message through the video. Spoiler alert: I got it!

The video reminded me of how I feel as an SEO specialist after spending hours researching and analyzing keywords and writing and optimizing content.

At the end of the day, I am a squizzed lemon, wondering if there is a way to speed up the process.

Content creation with Frase.io lets you reduce the time from hours to minutes, thanks to a powerful AI writing assistant.

The Frase.io tool was developed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2017. However, it supports multilingual optimization in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Danish.

Frase.io has 13 tools to help you optimize your content creation process. I will describe the tools in detail later in this article. Nevertheless, I want to briefly outline how and when Frase.io can be helpful for you.

  • Research and analyze top-ranking content for your target keywords.
  • Generate new content based on a given topic.
  • Continue writing your article from the point you left it.
  • Rewrite or paraphrase existing content.
  • Generate title ideas.
  • Optimize content for SEO.
  • Create an article based on your outline.

As you see, the scope of work that Frase.io can cover is enormous.

If the tool solves all these challenges, it’s a massive help for SEO specialists.

By the way, the tool can be helpful for other professionals who manage content but are not directly dealing with SEO, like

  • Content managers
  • Writers
  • Agencies
  • Freelancers
  • Small business owners

Despite the relatively high price (I’ll cover it later in detail), I upgraded my Frase.io account to see how it works and whether it can create unique, high-quality content, as promised.

Here is my Frase.io review with findings and experience.

How does Frase.io work?

I registered and paid for the tool before getting access to the dashboard. You can intuitively guess what every feature means and does without reading tutorials.

Frase.io dashboard

If you want the tool to create new AI-generated content for you or optimize your existing content, you must create a new document.

Here is what it looks like.

In my case, I picked “Create new content” for the “SEO for startups” topic.

I wrote a similar content piece about SEO for travel bloggers that reached the second search result page in one month! So, I was curious to learn what the tool would offer for a similar topic.

I picked the search type “Top Google results” and hit “Create Document.”

Here is what happens next:

Frase.io dashboard review

Frase.io analyses top-ranking results and shows their structure with H1, H2, and H3 headlines.

You can scroll through all available options and choose paragraphs you want to include in your article.

In my case, I picked the paragraph about SEO goals and clicked on “Write about this.

You can see the AI-generated paragraph I’ve got below.

I checked it with Grammarly, which showed me only a 4% similarity with the original article. However, if you read it thoroughly, you’ll notice that this is paraphrasing.

The tool keeps the context of the original article but uses synonyms to make your text original.

Frase.io dashboard

It took me half an hour to review the list of top search results and handpick the topics I wanted to include in my article.

Half an hour and an article with 1644 words is ready.

What a speedy solution!

However, it does not mean that the article is ready for posting.

After reading the article generated by the AI assistant, I’ve made the following implications:

  • Some inconsistencies occur. For instance, the sentence says “10 tools,” but the article describes only 5.
  • Some sentences with bizarre wordings (rarely) occur. For example, “I’ve long been an advocate for and blogging for SEO purposes, and it makes sense because you’re telling people what you do, how you do it, and why you do it.”
  • Unfinished paragraphs that require additional writing.
  • No links to external resources are included.
  • Some vague descriptions occur that require clarity. For example, “The meta description is the text that appears below your page in a search result.

There are a lot of tiny issues that require manual editing and proofreading before the article is ready for publishing. Besides, the AI-generated content will miss a human part in it — your personal and professional stories.

As an SEO expert, I’d use this tool for guest post writing, where many articles are needed at once to submit to other sites. However, I’d need to do rounds of editing before publishing it on my website.

I’ve talked about content so far.

However, the Frase.io tool has many more features.

I’ve also tried a title generator to create a title for my “SEO for startups” article.

Here are some title ideas the AI-writing assistant generated for me:

Frase.io title generator

You might notice that some keywords have nothing to do with my topic.

I refer to titles like “How to use social media to grow your business” or “How to find customers on Pinterest.

Some titles contain my target keyword, but I believe they require editing too.

The first search result page is a very competitive place. If the title is not catchy, people will pick someone else. Therefore, I carefully examine H1 tags and meta titles before crafting the title for my article.

I posted the experimental article. You can check the copy and the title here.

The last essential step is content optimization.

I want to ensure my well-written article is optimized and has a good chance of ranking high on Google.

So, here is what the optimization dashboard looks like.

Frase.io highlighted used keywords on the right with the number of times those keywords were included in the article.

The data shows how well my article is optimized for ranking compared to the top 20 competitors.

I’ve used the “SEO for Startups” keyword two times, while some keywords, like “SEO content,” are not included.

Now, anyone might be confused about what to do next. Is the article optimized, or should I include the missing keywords?

Frase.io optimization tools

As an SEO expert, I can tell you that the article is NOT optimized to rank on Google just yet!

Many keywords from the list are not related to my target keyword — SEO for startups.

Besides, I did quick keyword research using Semrush and found some semantically related keywords that were not on the list.

I had to do some tricks to the content and add a few more keywords to optimize it for rankings. This way, I am confident that the article includes essential keywords and will rank on Google.

If you want to know how to do keyword research effectively and create high-ranking content, grab my in-depth guide on “How to create blog posts that hit the Google front page.

Overall, I am satisfied with the experience I’ve had from using Frase.io. It’s a powerful content generator tool for writers and companies needing to produce content quickly.

You won’t need to spend hours crafting articles from scratch. You can use AI-generated writing and edit and optimize at the end.

The Frase.io main page features two tools you can try for free.

These are the Listicle generator and the Blog introduction generator.

As a marketer and content writer, I was curious to test them and see what the AI writing assistant would offer.

After trying these tools, I’ve discovered some exciting implications I can’t wait to share with you.

So, here we go.

Listicle generator

Listicles are among the most popular and top-performing content pieces.

As a reader, you don’t need to read the full article. It’s enough to skim it to get the point.

I wrote a lot of listicles during my marketing career. Perhaps this number will go beyond 50 if I count them all.

Every listicle I wrote was supposed to (1) rank on the first Google search result page and (2) convert visitors into leads/customers.

Therefore, I know how important and challenging it is to create an optimized content piece that achieves the targets.

I took one of my top-performing blog posts about tools for SEO content writing that ranks in the top ten to test the Listicle generator.

Below is the outline I’ve manually created for the article after competitor and keyword research.

This article has the target and semantically related keywords in H1, H2, and H3 title tags. After carefully analyzing the top-ranking pages and search intent, I created an article that holistically answers users’ questions.

SEO writing, expertise, and domain knowledge helped me create content that quickly jumped to the Google front page.

Frase.io review - content outline

Would I achieve the same results if I used the Frase.io listicle generator? Here is a list of paragraphs Frase.io recommends including in the article.

Frase.io Listicle generator

You can only see a preview in the free mode, but it’s enough to make a conclusion.

I was impressed because the actual content did not sound dry and tedious. I wouldn’t say a machine wrote the content.

However, the recommended paragraphs don’t take SEO into account.

Keyword research tools and content writing tools are two different topics! Someone searching for keyword research tools might not necessarily want to read about content writing and article submission tools.

Google analyses user behavior and tries to show the most relevant results. Therefore, I am sure these should be three separate topics optimized to rank in search results.

This is a tiny observation and irrelevant for those who don’t create optimized content. If you do, keep it in the account.

Blog introduction generator

A blog introduction generator can create an intro section with roughly 100 words for an arbitrary topic.

It works the following way.

Add your topic to the “Title” section and click “Generate.

Here is what I’ve got:

Frase.io introduction generator

If you don’t like the recommended blog introduction, Frase.io can provide you with a new sample by clicking on the “Re-Generate” button.

I intentionally clicked on “Re-Generate” ten times to see if I’d be humbly asked to pay for the tool, but it did not happen.

You can re-generate the introduction as many times as you want.

The AI-generated content sounds quite natural and appeals to the reader. However, I feel the tool mixes sentences and adds or removes some content parts to get an authentic piece.

If the content is authentic, you like it, and you want to read more of it, you’ll be asked to upgrade to a paid Frase.io version as soon as you click “Load more.”

You can find more free writing tools from Frase.io here.  These include:

  • AI Content Generator
  • Introduction generator
  • Outline generator
  • Paraphrasing tool
  • Paragraph rewriter
  • Blog title generator
  • Description generator
  • People also ask
  • Product description
  • Slogan generator
  • Summary generator
  • Value proposition generator
  • Sentence rewriter

Frase.io SEO Add-ons

Frase.io Add-ons are extra features you can purchase in addition to your subscription.

Here is what you can get for $35/month.

1. Unlimited AI-powered writing

There are three subscription plans, and each includes 10,000 AI characters, according to the Frase.io pricing page.

It means you can only generate new content with up to 10,000 characters, which is roughly 1,500-2,000 words.

As an SEO writer, I create one article with roughly 1,500 words daily. So, 10,000 characters won’t be enough for me. That’s why Add-ons exist.

If you want to generate unlimited characters, you’ll have to use Add-ons.

2. Advanced SEO functionality

If your goal is to create AI-generated content optimized for SEO, Frase.io Add-ons are essential.

Upon upgrading your account, you’ll be able to see backlink and domain authority data for search results. Furthermore, you’ll be able to create texts that are optimized to rank for multiple queries that you can manually insert or pull from other websites.

If you are new to SEO or have insufficient resources to run an SEO team, Frase.io with Add-ons is a reasonable choice. You don’t need to know the art and science of SEO.

The screenshot above shows that you only need to provide basic data, and the tool will do the rest of the job for you.

I’ve published an AI-written and optimized article about SEO for startups to check whether this method works. You can check the article here.

I’ve collected the article’s performance stats and shared them later in this article.

If Frase.io + Add-ons indeed deliver on their promise, it’s a reasonable offer compared to other popular tools like Semrush or Ahrefs.

You can learn more about Frase.io Add-ons here.

The performance of AI-generated article

I have not seen bloggers talking about the impact of AI-generated content, even though every AI writing tool claims to deliver on its promise.

Therefore, I picked a random AI content generator, published an artificially written article on my website, and tracked its performance for one month upon publication.

SEO for startups” ranks for 5 keywords, according to Ahrefs as of September 29th, 2022. Below, you can also see its average position on Google and how the article’s impressions grow daily:

AI-generated article's performance

As an SEO specialist, I can’t say whether this is a good or bad result.

Everything should be assessed in comparison to something.

Therefore, I compared this article’s performance to this manually researched and written post I published around the same date.

As of September 29th, 2022, the stats were the following:

  • Total clicks: 30
  • Total impressions: 4.81k
  • Average CTR: 0.6%
  • Average position: 23
  • Ranking keywords according to Ahrefs: 17

I agree that many tiny details influence the ranking and performance, like Global Volume and Competition, but I can certainly say that human writing wins in this race.

My manually written article has better stats, attracts roughly 30 visitors from organic search, and continues growing because I did extensive research before writing it.

I analyzed the top 10 ranking results users’ search intent and brainstormed what potentially my target audience would want to read there.

Therefore, the manually written article was valuable for readers, filled with my tone of voice and exclusive SEO insights not available elsewhere.

Frase.io pricing

Frase.io does not have a free version or a trial.

Once you log in, you’ll be forwarded to the following page, where you can choose a subscription plan:

Frase.io pricing
Frase.io pricing.

The cheapest plan costs $14.99/month.  You can see the Frase.io pricing page here.

It’s hard to justify the costs when you don’t know whether this tool will fit your needs. The description is quite clear on the website, but I kept asking myself whether this tool would work for me.

I am sure other users have similar concerns. Therefore, Frase.io introduced a 5-day money-back guarantee policy. You can ask for a refund if you tried the tool and did not like it for some reason. No questions asked.

I paid $44.99 for a Basic Plan to test the tool (the monthly price around August 2022). It’s enough to get a general idea of how the tool works and whether it’s worth paying for it.

Frase.io offers two more plans for companies and enterprises. You can learn more about prices and conditions for businesses here

Remember when subscribing to a paid plan because the add-on costs are added by default.

  1. Maybe frase.io is a good SEO tool for beginners, but I think it’s more efficient and cheaper to use Writesonic.com + Surferseo.com. There is integration and a free period of 30 days. I think you will like it
