As an SEO specialist, I research keywords almost daily to help my clients find easy-to-rank keywords. Keyword research and SEO writing have long been my primary strategies for growing my website, which has reached over 6,000 organic traffic with roughly 70 pages. 

Your website can realistically rank on Google if you know how to research keywords with low competition and decent search volumes. 

This article is a continuation of my keyword research studies. I’ve already shared easy-to-rank art keywords and dental keywords.

This time, I’ll share 20 keyword ideas related to education. Besides, I’ll share some tips on how you can target these keywords with confidence.

Typically, tools like Semrush, Ahrefs, and Ubersuggest are used for niche keyword research

However, I’ve done this job for you.

I researched and handpicked some low-competition educational keywords for your blog. 

Here are some keywords related to various aspects of education:

I use Semrush’s free version for keyword research, on-page optimization, website analysis, and SEO writing. This is one of the most comprehensive tools on the market, with a free trial and a generous free version. 

I’ve also randomly picked up a few education keywords from this list to show you how you can analyze keywords and decide whether they’ll suit your website needs.

“Educational apps for adults”

Let’s start with the keyword “Educational apps for adults.” 

Here’s the overview of a keyword provided by Semrush.

We have to analyze the following metrics to understand whether this keyword is worth targeting:

  • Search volume
  • Keyword difficulty (a score from 0 to 100)
  • Search intent 

In our case, the keyword has a pretty decent global volume — 1100 searches monthly, with 390 coming from the USA. 

The keyword difficulty is 27/100, which is considered an easy-to-rank keyword. 

In this particular case, the search intent is mixed, meaning some users might occasionally browse while others are eager to make a purchase.

“Educational podcasts for kids”

Now, let’s take a closer look at the “Educational podcasts for kids” keyword. 

This keyword has similar metrics to the previous one. However, the search volume is pretty low. Around 80 users search for these keywords globally, with roughly 30 from the USA.

If you record educational podcasts for kids, then it’s your keyword to target, which will bring you your target audience and prospects. If it’s a secondary keyword for you, don’t make it a priority. I recommend looking for other keywords with higher search volumes.

“Books for early readers”

Here’s Semrush’s report for the “books for early readers” keyword.

What do you think about this education keyword? Would you target it?

In my opinion, it’s an excellent keyword to target for anyone selling books for kids or willing to make money promoting someone else’s books.

The keyword has low competition in search results (yet). This may change in the future, though. The global volume is pretty decent — 1,900 searches per month. 

Besides, Semrush says the keyword has a commercial search intent, which indicates that the audience considers various options to buy the most suitable product. 

If this keyword fits your niche, I highly recommend targeting it.

“Study abroad scholarships”

I have a story related to this keyword. 

When I started my career as a junior SEO specialist, I was asked to research education keywords for a blog. The purpose was to attract the audience to a website and promote tutoring services. 

I remember writing content and putting all the elements together with a UX designer. 

Besides providing students with valuable information, this page was a link magnet since various websites referred to us as a go-to source for the latest information about study scholarships. 

Back in 2015, I noticed this keyword due to its low competition and decent search traffic potential. 

9 years later, I’ve analyzed this keyword again.

The competition has significantly increased, but it’s moderate. The global volume, on the other hand, is pretty high, which signals the popularity of this keyword. 

You might also notice a cost-per-click of $2.11 in the report below. This is a relatively high price per click, which signals that brands are willing to compete for this keyword.

“STEM activities for preschoolers”

This keyword has a commercial search intent, which means website owners targeting this keyword can advertise and potentially sell various products related to STEM activities.

Remember, your target audience is parents, in this case. If you want to rank for this keyword, ensure your content is optimized and addresses parents’ concerns, such as

  • Why kids should attend your preschool classrooms 
  • How your services differ from others
  • Safety and security measures
  • What kids will learn and be able to achieve
  • Etc.

Even though the competition is moderate, you’ll still have to compete with organic and paid listings.

Targeting education keywords: things to know

In 2024, it is not just about ranking high in search results. It’s about creating valuable experiences for users seeking educational content.

As search algorithms become more sophisticated, the focus has shifted towards user search intent (“why” behind any search query), relevance, and user experience. 

Understanding the search intent behind education keywords is essential for crafting content that resonates with your audience. Whether users seek information, look for online courses, or explore scholarly resources, aligning your content with their intent can significantly impact your SEO efforts. 

The role of educational keywords in SEO goes beyond mere rankings. It’s about connecting with users on a deeper level and providing them with the information they seek. 

By incorporating long-tail keywords, question-based queries, and trendy topics, you can enhance the discoverability of your content and address the specific needs of your audience.
