If you’re searching for the best SEO content writing tools, you’re in the right place.
As an SEO specialist and website owner, I’ve tested a bunch of free and paid SEO writing tools to create content that ranks.
Each tool provides different keyword suggestions, search volumes, and competition levels. Plus, switching between several tools can be a hassle.
I’ve come across many articles listing tons of tools. But just because a tool is mentioned there doesn’t mean the author has actually used it. And not every tool will help you create well-optimized and helpful content.
In this article, I’m sharing my go-to SEO content writing software—both free and paid.
I’ve used these tools to help businesses grow their online presence and attract customers. I also rely on them for keyword research and growing my own WordPress blog.
Before we dive into the list, let’s quickly go over what SEO content writing is and why it’s a must for anyone looking to grow a website.
P.S. Some links are affiliate in this post. This means I’ll earn a small commission if you decide to use any of the recommended tools. I’m sharing this because you deserve to know this info. Even if you don’t go for it, I’m happy to feature these tools, as I’ve been using some of the them to grow my website and help my clients. 🙌
What is SEO content writing?
Let me ask you something: How do you usually look for answers online?
Do you google them?
Maybe you post a question on social media, Quora, or Reddit?
Studies say that about 68% of online experiences start with a search engine.
And before making a purchase, nearly half of people (47%) check out at least 3–5 pieces of content before deciding.
Sure, social media can be great for business, but organic traffic is just as important, if not more.
Since most people (over 75%) never click past the first page of Google, your job as a writer is to create content that ranks high enough to be seen.
How do you do that?
With SEO writing.
I’m a huge fan of SEO writing because it brings long-term results that actually matter.
SEO writing is about optimizing your content with keywords and phrases people are already searching for.
If you want to master it and make your content easier to find, you’ll need to use suitable SEO content writing tools and follow proven strategies.
The good news? I’ve learned a lot about this, and I’m sharing it all in this article.

1. ContentShake AI

ContentShake AI is an SEO writing tool by Semrush. Its goal is to help writers, SEOs, and creators quickly generate high-quality, SEO-optimized articles.
It can generate content automatically, integrate keywords, and work across different niches.
Plus, it supports 7 languages: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian, and Portuguese.
You can also connect ContentShake AI to your WordPress blog and publish articles directly to your site. No need to format or click a “Publish” button manually.
It also provides built-in stock images and an AI image generator, so you won’t have to spend hours making visuals like I do in Canva.
ContentShake AI also suggests fresh topic ideas every week based on your niche and target location. It’s helpful if you’re always looking for new content ideas (like me!).
Plus, it checks out what competitors are doing and finds trending topics to keep your content relevant.
Oh, and it can even tweak each piece to match your writing style, target audience, and brand voice. Pretty handy, right?
There’s a 7-day free trial, so you can see if it works for you.
Pricing
ContentShake AI has one paid plan at $60/month, unlocking everything:
- Unlimited SEO-friendly articles
- 25 fresh content ideas every week
- Unlimited brand voices
- Localized content suggestions
- Free SEO boost with SERP insights
- AI-powered image search and creation
- Built-in AI chat
- Content optimizer
- Handy Chrome extension
2. GREMI

GREMI combines AI-powered copywriting and keyword research in one place, so you don’t have to juggle multiple tools. Everything happens in a single tab, and it only takes a few minutes.
Here’s how you can set up an automated SEO campaign with GREMI:
- On the “Campaign” page, click “New” after picking a subscription.
- Describe your product in simple terms, and use the terms your audience might use to search for your product.
- Save your changes, and you’ll land on the campaign management page. Here, you’ll see keywords that match your description, along with suggested SEO article headlines, keyword competition, and search volume.
- When you find a keyword and headline that work for you (or the one GREMI recommends), hit “Generate Article,”
- Review the content piece, humanize AI content if needed, and then publish it on your site.
Need a walkthrough? The GREMI team has a video tutorial you can follow!
Pricing
GREMI is relatively more expensive than some other tools on my list. The basic package starts at $29.99, which lets you research up to 500 keywords and generate 80 articles. It’s a pretty generous offer, I’d say.
Each tier is based on the amount of content and research you can do in a given month.
Although GREMI’s search tool isn’t as robust as one of its competitors, like Semrush or Ahrefs, it is an excellent alternative for beginners.

3. Koala Writer AI

I’ve been using Koala SEO Writer for several years to create content for my website.
Funny enough, I even used it to generate my own Koala review.
Of course, I added my own insights and personal take, and now that article ranks in the top 10 for my target keywords.
What I like about Koala AI is how easy it is to use. Plus, it gives you a ton of ways to customize your content before it’s generated.
Here’s what you can do:
- Choose the tone of voice
- Set the word count
- add your target keyword
- pick a country for optimization
- Customize the outline
- Generate content in over 100 languages
- And more!
If interested, you can also apply this discount code to get 15% off on all Koala AI payment plans: KOALAWRITER15
Pricing
You can use Koala’s free plan to generate up to 5,000 words per month for free. That’s basically enough for one article with some edits.
If you need more content, the Koala’s paid plans start at $9 monthly for 15,000 words.

4. Hypertext.ai

Hypertxt.ai is an SEO writing tool and a great alternative to Koala Writer, especially if you’re already familiar with how that tool works (like I am).
What makes Hypertxt stand out is its ability to create long-form content using research insights pulled from Reddit, Wikipedia, and Quora.
This means you don’t have to spend hours researching to add depth to your articles or support your points. Instead, Hypertxt does it for you.
All you need to do is enter your target keyword, pick your article type, choose a writing style, and hit “Generate.”
Another cool feature?
All paid plans come with a keyword research toolkit, so you can check search volume, trends, competition scores, and related keywords.
The Hypertxt team offers a 25% discount on their services: FIRST25
You can test it out for just $11.25 per month. 🚀
Pricing
Hypertxt offers three pricing plans, Personal, Premium, and HyperScale, with the cheapest starting at $15/month for 10 articles. You can also test it out with three free articles (no credit card needed).

5. SE Ranking

With a set of advanced features, SE Ranking can help you handle the entire cycle of SEO tasks, including content creation.
The platform’s Content Marketing module, with its built-in AI Writer, allows you to generate content ideas, generate content, and optimize it for search engines. The goal? More traffic and conversions for your site.
If you’re on the most affordable plan, you can generate up to 15 articles with a total of 25,000 AI-generated words, which works out to about 1,600 words per article. That might be enough for some topics, but in my experience, top-ranking content is usually longer, especially for competitive keywords.
This tool analyzes your competition to see what content ranks best for your target keywords.
Then, based on a deep SERP analysis, it gives you suggestions on different content parameters, such as word count, keywords to target, and text structure.
It also has a Content Score that shows how your article compares to the top-ranking ones. The tool even gives you simple tweaks to improve your score, which can help boost your rankings.
You can work on your content directly in Google Docs using SE Ranking’s Content Editor. It installs as a sidebar and gives you real-time SEO insights while you write, so you don’t have to jump between tools.

Pricing
SE Ranking offers tiered pricing plans to fit your needs.
A monthly subscription starts from $65.
The Content Marketing Module add-on pricing starts at $29/month for 15 articles. If you choose to pay annually, you can save 20%.

6. SEOpital

With SEOpital, you can create content optimized for your target keywords and track an unlimited number of keywords right from your dashboard.
But it’s more than just an SEO tool for content writing. It’s a solid SEO tool. You can use it to research keywords, write content, connect your Google Search Console to track keyword rankings and monitor ranking changes.
It also comes with a WordPress integration to speed up the content publishing process.
SEOPital lets you create articles ranging from 300 to 5,000 words! It’s up to you to decide.
Additionally, it’s a multilanguage tool! You can generate content in the following languages:
- French
- English
- Italian
- Spanish
- Portuguese
With these features, SEOpital can speed up your content production process, making it easier to create high-quality and optimized content.
Pricing
SEOpital offers four main subscription plans:
- Basic Plan: $49/month. Generate up to 10 content pieces.
- Standard Plan: $97/month. Generate up to 25 content pieces.
- Expert Plan: $149/month. Generate up to 50 content pieces.
- Elite Plan: $249/month. Generate up to 50 content pieces.
A credit card is not required for a 7-day trial period. Moreover, new users get five free credits upon signing up.

7. Frase.io

Frase.io is an AI-powered SEO tool for content writing that helps you optimize the entire content creation process, including research, outline creation, content writing, and optimization.
It comes with four key features to help you with SEO content:
- Content Briefs
- AI Article Writer
- Content Optimization
- Content Editor
Each feature serves a specific purpose in your content workflow.
Let’s start with Content Briefs. Frase.io can generate them automatically based on your target keywords. It analyzes top-ranking pages to create briefs that help your content stay competitive.
Next, you have two options: hire a writer (I used to do it on Fiverr Pro) or use the AI Article Writer to generate content.
Once your draft is ready, the Content Editor steps in to refine grammar, spelling, and overall accuracy.
And when everything looks good? You can publish your content straight to your WordPress blog with just a click.
Frase.io was the first tool AI SEO tool I tested to assess content quality and on-page SEO. If you’re curious about my experience and results, check out my Frase.io review.
Pricing
Frase.io has three paid plans, Basic, Team, and Enterprise, for different content needs.
If you want to try it out first, there’s a free trial. You can generate one article up to 2,500 words to see how it works. No credit card needed!

8. Content Raptor

Content Raptor is an AI SEO content optimization tool that can help you achieve the following:
- Find your website pages with the best traffic potential
- Give you optimization ideas to boost organic rankings
- Let you A/B test those ideas
- Track your content’s performance over time
To get started, you’ll need to connect this SEO content software to Google Search Console. This gives the tool access to your website data so it can analyze its performance and suggest improvements.
Inside the Content Editor, you can quickly add missing keywords and expand sections to improve rankings. You can do this manually or let the AI Rewrite tool tweak your content for you.
Before trying it, I read a bunch of reviews, and this quote from Jamie I.F., founder of increasing.com, stood out:
“It’s like SurferSEO, SEOTesting and Query Hunter combined. But on steroids!“
Overall, it seems like a solid tool with a simple, transparent pricing model.
Pricing
Most SEO writing tools have multiple pricing plans, but Content Raptor keeps it simple—just one plan at $47 per month. Plus, you can test it out free for 7 days before committing.

How do you choose the most suitable SEO content writing tool?
If you’re a solopreneur, dropping $200 a month on a tool might not be the best use of your money. But for established companies, that’s just another business expense they can easily cover.
With so many SEO content optimization and writing tools out there, how do you pick the right one for your needs?
As someone who writes SEO content daily and knows a thing or two about marketing, I recommend considering these factors when choosing a tool:
- Budget – Can you afford to spend money on it every month?
- Accuracy – Does it provide accurate metrics? More precise data usually means a higher price tag.
- Learning Curve – Some tools take time to master. Is it worth the effort?
- Impact – Will this tool actually help you hit your business goals?
Personally, I use Koala AI and Semrush.
I stick to a free Semrush account, which gives me 10 searches per month. That’s usually enough for a quick website analysis, keyword research, finding related keywords, and optimizing content.
If you’re on a budget, check out GREMI. Its keyword research tool is solid. While it doesn’t cover as much ground as Ahrefs or Semrush, it’s still a great option for the price.
At the end of the day, the best tool is the one that works for your needs and budget.

Hi Katerina,
Thank you so much for your comment and for reading my stories. I appreciate it and hope you find them helpful.
Could you, please, let me know if you are referring to the SEO writing ebook?
I have two ebooks. That’s why I’d like to clarify it first.:)
Thanks in advance!
Hi Katerina,
The SEO writing ebook reveals a proven-to-work method on how I create high-ranking stories (even for new sites) for the USA market.
However, the same strategy can be applied to discover keywords with high search traffic potential for any country.
You will only need to switch the country in the recommended tools – Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, or Ubbersuggest. These tools are described in the ebook too, so no worries about it. 🙂
So, this ebook can help you if your goal is to grow a niche website, discover low-competition keywords with high traffic potential, write optimized blog posts and rank high on Google.
I hope it answers your questions. 🙂
Best,
Victoria
